Out of State DWI Suspension and Texas Driver's License Question
From an email:
I was arrested in 2005 while in the military in North Carolina for a DWI. My license is suspended in North Carolina but is it suspended in Texas?
Answer:
I assume you are living in Texas now? Ever apply for a Texas DL? Or are you just driving around hoping not to get pulled over? (Not the best idea - by the way.)
Basically, if Texas DPS gives you a license, you're good. Sounds like that's not the case though. You may need to clear up any problems with NC - if your license is still suspended there - before you can get a Texas DL.
If your suspension period is up you may just have to pay a reinstatement fee to North Carolina, to get in compliance with their DMV. Once that's done, under the interstate compact, you will probably be eligible for a regular license here.
If you aren't eligible for a 24/7 Texas driver's license, you may be able to get an occupational here in Texas. That's a bit trickier, and not answerable without knowing more facts.
I don't know what part of Texas you're in, but you should find a DWI lawyer that practices in your (current) neck of the woods to help you with this.
My license is from Texas. I was in the military when I got the DWI in North Carolina and I am still in North Carolina with the Texas liscense suspended here.
I am about to move home to Texas and was wondering if it was going to be suspended there also.
My girlfriend was arrested for DWI 2 1/2 years ago and never showed up for court. She even left the state for over a year after the arrest. What kind of charges is she looking at now?
I was arrested in Illinois for DUI 4/18/08. They are telling me that in the state if illinois there is a first time offenders deal where I will be put into court supervision for a year and if i complete that without another alcohol related incident that my charge will be not looked at as a conviction. They can not tell me though how the state of texas is going to look at this. Will they honor the probabtion or will it show up as a DUI on my driving record? They say that even though it will not be looked at as a conviction it can not be expunged from my record. I need my DL for work and company insurance will not cover me with a DUI offense on my driving record. My question is how will the state of texas put this on my record?
I received a DWI in the state of Tennessee, and received a letter from the state of Tennessee that my license was suspended... but I have a Texas drivers license. Is my license suspended in Tennessee? Is my license suspended in Texas?
To whom it may concern,
I received a DWI in the state of Arkansas on December 2nd, 2007. I have a TX driver’s license, but live in Arkansas. Since my arrest, I have taken care of the charges, been to court, and have paid the fines. Almost a year later, (9/22/08), I received a letter from the Texas Department of Public Safety stating that I owe $1040.00 to the Driver Responsibility Program.
Do I have to pay this? Secondly, is my TX license valid? I have completed all of the requirements of the state of AR, but who knows about Texas.
Reading the fine print indicates that I will have to pay this for three years. Are they crazy? I have already paid thousands of dollars to the state of Arkansas and now they want me to give Texas $3120.00 over three years.
Thanks for your help.
Hello,
I'm a resident of Tx, license is from Tx I was in NJ and received a DWI I went to jail because I refused to blow or submit to testing. Currently have a lawyer there my question is what will happen to my Texas license? The lawyer said there are two states that I can still have a full non-restricted license in just questioning this statement that I was told...Thx!
hi i waqs arrested in new mexico, alamogordo, otero county, for dwi. at the time i had a valid texas drivers license. texas found out about my dwi, and subsequently i had to pay the driver surcharge of $1000 a year for 3 years. i have finished paying it but i was wondering if i should have paid it at all. tell me the about the information and extration laws that govern the texas driver responsibility program
I received a DUI in NJ and satisfied their 7 month suspension and all fees, however they never recorded my Texas licence which is still valid. Will the DPS in Texas be aware of this? Please let me know as my Texas licence is still current.
Many Thanks.
I was just arrested for a DWI in Missouri and have not gone to court yet. I live in Texas and has a Texas license, Missouri tells me after 15 days my license is suspended. My question is how is this going to effect me in Texas?
i got a dui in illinois 6 years ago and just moved to tennessee how do i go about getting my liscense back
My fiance has 2 prior dui convictions in Texas dating back to 2003. His license is currently suspended and he was arrested this weekend in NY for another DUI. Because these are in 2 different states, does the 3rd offense becoming a felony still apply or are they independent of one another?
i was living in california and on my to missouri and was involved in a accident with no injuries and was arrested for a first time aggrivated dwi and bonded myself out for 2500 dollars. i just got my license renewed with missouri and got new license plates with no problem. the problem is that new mexico is 800 miles from where i live. I dont know how i am even suppose to get to court seeing how i am not suppose to drive and my parents are elderly and cant drive that far. what am i suppose to do
I recieved an DUI in the State of Arkansas. I was given a 30day Temp license the time of my release. The Arkansas Officer Took mt Texas DL and would not get it Back. Can I go to the Texas DPS and get a replacement until I go to court in Arkansas! It's beem less then 48 hours?
I received a DWI in New Mexico, it was, non aggravated, I had guns in the car, SSN was wrong(Sloppy Police Work). I got my Drivers License back and my guns.
I had to pay my bails bondsman over $4000, just to get me out of jail, because 75% of all out of state DWI's never come back. He said he was an ex cop and that they wouldn't extradite me from Texas, even if I was standing on the border.
I have not been convicted and this is a mister meaner, I am 1100 miles away,
Also, my license shouldn't be suspended, because I complied with the officer and the system. (I was cooperative and nice).
I tried to plead guilty, but magistrate judge said no you have to plead no contest and come back to court, I just wanted to get out of jail and go home back to Texas.
I will never step foot inside of New Mexico again as long as I live.
Will my Texas Driver License be affected, ever? I have a CDL AB & M, can I still drive legally?
Isn't a conviction and the revocation is for people who don't comply and they should keep your license and you carrying around a peace of paper or something for 20 days or something.
Will Texas suspend or revoke my license? Will they extradite me? Will Texas allow me to renew my license?
I haven't been convicted and the advice I was given was leave New Mexico and never ever come back and continue your regular life in Texas. I haven't had a ticket in over 17 years and I am a respectable citizen normally up until this point. I have served my country for over 20+ years, was with the unit that captured Sudam Hussain, I requested a speedy trial and everything, they want to drag it out for six months to a year, I have no money anymore and I can't even afford to go to court, because the trip alone is $720 round trip . I was willing to do time and everything. The full bail was to cover the court cost and everything incase I didn't show back up.
I think I amy going to go down and change my address on my Drivers License to a P.O. Box at DPS tomorrow and it should look legal for at least another 4 years so that I can get rich or something and get it taken care of later.
What should I do? I have no job or money I just became disabled, not to long ago and am a student.
I recently got a dui in the state of north carolina and have my license suspended for 2years. Is there any state i can move to and get a license?
