It can be said that it is a crime without intent...but does that mean they should not be held responsible for taking another life when they made a choice to drive drunk? I don't care if the intent is there or not, maybe because my son was killed by a drunk driver. Does that mean that his life is worth any less than a police officer, or even yet, the defendant? I think the laws should be changed. I think that, when a life is lost, the life of the driver should also be forfeited. Sound a little harsh? Maybe. But how would you feel if it were your child who was dead and the driver only received 7 years?
